Vijay Hazare Trophy starts on December 14
The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026–27 is scheduled to begin on 14 December 2026, with the Elite final set for 8 January 2027. The BCCI domestic-season calendar places the senior men's one-day competition after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and before the second phase of the Ranji Trophy. 1 2
For fans searching for “Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026”, the season label matters. The upcoming competition runs across December 2026 and January 2027. A fixture or squad list from 2025–26 belongs to a different edition and should not be treated as the current schedule.
The dates come from the existing BCCI calendar, announced earlier in the year. This is an advance season preview checked on 20 October, not a claim that the board released a new schedule today. Rediff's original PTI report was published on 20 May 2026. 2
Elite and Plate have different finishing dates
The Elite league stage is listed for 14–29 December 2026. Its knockout window runs from 2–8 January 2027, ending with the final on January 8. Cricbuzz's current Elite season page independently lists the December 14–January 8 window. 1 3
The Plate competition has an earlier finish. Its league matches are scheduled from 14–24 December, with the Plate final on 27 December 2026. Those dates should not be combined with the Elite final when describing the tournament. 1
These are tournament-stage windows, not a verified time for every individual match. This preview does not assign a toss time, playing XI or venue to a fixture that has not been checked separately. Match-specific details need the relevant board fixture and subsequent team announcement.
How teams qualify for the Elite quarter-finals
BCCI's published format sends the top two teams from each of four Elite groups directly to the quarter-finals. The bracket is listed as follows: 1
- Quarter-final 1: Group A winner against Group C runner-up.
- Quarter-final 2: Group B winner against Group D runner-up.
- Quarter-final 3: Group C winner against Group A runner-up.
- Quarter-final 4: Group D winner against Group B runner-up.
The first and fourth quarter-final winners meet in one semi-final. The second and third winners meet in the other, with the semi-final winners advancing to the final. These are bracket positions, not confirmed team names. 1
The Vijay Hazare route should not be confused with the Super League system listed for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The competitions also serve different formats: Vijay Hazare is the national 50-over meet, while Syed Mushtaq Ali is the national T20 competition. 1 2
What is known about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli?
A 12 October CricTracker report said Rohit Sharma had communicated availability to Mumbai from December 24. It also reported DDCA president Rohan Jaitley's indication that Virat Kohli would be available for Delhi, while noting workload considerations and the absence of final confirmation. 4
That report is not an official squad list or a confirmed playing XI. Neither player's selection for a specific 2026–27 fixture has been established by the sources used for this preview. Availability, selection and an actual match appearance remain separate questions; an older social-media graphic cannot resolve them.
Where Vijay Hazare fits in the domestic season
Vijay Hazare provides senior state teams with a one-day competition, distinct from the multi-day Ranji Trophy. The BCCI calendar places the first Ranji phase between October 11 and November 5, with its second phase beginning on January 17 after the white-ball tournaments. 1 2
Readers following current state cricket can also read our dated report on Uday Saharan's Punjab Ranji century. That report covers a first-class innings; it is not confirmation of a future Vijay Hazare selection.
For the broader distinction between first-class, one-day and T20 competitions, the domestic cricket overview explains those formats. Its Vedik Exchange account information is separate from BCCI player registration and official tournament access.
The next useful updates will be verified state squads and fixture-specific announcements. Until then, December 14 is the scheduled opening date, the Elite and Plate finishing dates remain different, and named-player availability reports should retain their qualifications. 1
