India–West Indies Ranchi toss time: 6:30 PM IST is the scheduled expectation
India's second T20I against West Indies is scheduled for 9 October 2026 at 7:00 PM IST / 1:30 PM GMT at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. The BCCI match record verifies the date, ground and match start. At this morning's check, the match had not begun and no toss winner was announced.
The Times of India fixture report, published on 8 October at 12:55 PM IST, lists the toss at 6:30 PM IST / 1:00 PM GMT, 30 minutes before play. BCCI's cited page does not separately supply a toss clock. This is the scheduled or expected timing, not an observed toss; rain or ground preparation could delay it.
Our 7 October roundup gave the earlier Ranchi date check. This report adds today's provider-specific match-hour forecasts, which differ substantially rather than supporting a blanket clear-weather claim.
BBC Weather expects a mostly clear evening with little rain
BBC Weather's Ranchi page, updated at 9:33 AM IST on 9 October and checked around 10:31 AM, showed a clear, low-precipitation evening. These are city forecasts, not conditions observed on the stadium outfield.
Around the toss: 6:30 PM IST
BBC forecast 23°C, 5% precipitation probability, 80% humidity and 8 km/h north-northwesterly wind, with clear sky. The displayed details did not provide a numeric cloud-cover percentage; none is invented here.
During the match: BBC's half-hour slots
At 7:30 PM, BBC showed 22°C, 3% precipitation probability, 82% humidity and 8 km/h wind. At 8:30 PM, it showed 22°C, 1%, 84% humidity and 7 km/h. By 9:30 PM, the forecast was 21°C, 0%, 88% humidity and 6 km/h. These are not exact 7 PM or 8 PM observations.
AccuWeather still flags thunderstorms at 7–8 PM
AccuWeather's Ranchi hourly page, checked around 10:31 AM IST, did not display an issue timestamp. Its evening risk was materially higher than BBC's. The source temperatures and winds were converted from Fahrenheit and miles per hour to Celsius and kilometres per hour.
7:00 PM IST — scheduled match start
The forecast was 22.2°C, 54% precipitation probability, 85% humidity, 9.7 km/h NNW wind and 70% cloud cover, with thunderstorms described.
8:00 PM IST — first-innings period
AccuWeather showed 21.1°C, 55% precipitation probability, 88% humidity, 8 km/h NNW wind and 7% cloud cover, still describing thunderstorms. Cloud cover and rain probability measure different things; the source's two figures should not be substituted for each other.
For 9–10 PM, temperatures eased from 20.6°C to 20°C, rain probability from 49% to 34%, and cloud cover from 5% to 3%. Humidity rose from 91% to 93%, with wind near 8 km/h NNW/NW and clear conditions described. A clear-sky label does not make the separately displayed precipitation probability zero.
IMD flags a possible thunderstorm; a washout is not established
The IMD Ranchi city forecast dated 9 October also allows rain or thunderstorms and mentions lightning with 30–40 km/h gusts. This is a city/day warning, not a forecast that sustained wind throughout the match will be 30–40 km/h.
Do not average the BBC and AccuWeather rain probabilities. They come from different providers and partly different time slots. The disagreement leaves an early interruption possible, but neither a rain-free match nor a washout can responsibly be declared at this cutoff. Near-toss radar, covers and official ground updates are the useful next checks.
The separate Ranchi pitch and dew report concerns moisture observed during Thursday practice, not rainfall measured today. A rising humidity forecast also does not quantify how wet the outfield will become.
Three things to check before the evening's play
- Ground update: whether rain is reaching JSCA, the covers are off and the outfield is fit.
- Actual toss and official XIs: whether the scheduled timing holds, and which of the published selection possibilities become confirmed names.
- Final pitch and dew assessment: what the captains report before deciding to bat or field.
