India vs West Indies 2nd T20I: Ranchi on 9 October at 7 PM IST

India lead the five-match T20I series 1–0. The BCCI match centre schedules the second match in Ranchi for Friday, 9 October 2026, at 7:00 PM IST.

Date, venue and first-match context

The match is at the JSCA International Stadium Complex. The BCCI page’s 1:30 PM figure is UTC, not a second local start time. The first match is complete; Ranchi remains ahead at this check. The Lucknow scorecard records an eight-wicket India win on 6 October: West Indies 171 all out and India 172/2 in 14.4 overs, with Shreyas Iyer unbeaten on 102 and debutant Naman Dhir taking 3/31. These are first-match performances, not predictions for Ranchi. Squads can change, and an announced squad is not a match-day XI. Wait for the toss and the official team sheets before naming starters.

Our dated first-T20I squad preview records pre-match selection context, while the T20 Cricket ID guide explains Vedik account terminology across T20 formats. Neither provides official live scores or India team credentials; use the BCCI match centre for the fixture and result.

Taylor's 64 not out and 2/8 complete West Indies Women's 3–0 sweep

West Indies Women won the third T20I by eight wickets in Harare on 7 October to complete a 3–0 series victory against Zimbabwe Women. The completed scorecard records Zimbabwe 142/6 and West Indies 143/2 in 17 overs, leaving 18 balls unused. Stafanie Taylor returned 2/8 in four overs and made an unbeaten 64 from 39 balls in the chase. She was player of the match.

Zimbabwe opener Kelis Ndhlovu made 63 from 48 balls, and Jahzara Claxton contributed 38 in the chase. Taylor took the match award; Claxton was player of the series after 73 runs and seven wickets in the three games. Cameron Green out of Durban first Test; Australia's No. 5 still open

Cricket Australia reported coach Andrew McDonald's confirmation that Cameron Green will miss the first Test against South Africa, scheduled to start at Kingsmead, Durban, on 9 October. Green strained an abdominal muscle while batting in the third ODI at Potchefstroom and missed the subsequent tour match. This is a confirmed absence for the opener—not confirmation that he will miss every Test.

Selection remains open

McDonald said Green could potentially return later as a specialist batter, while bowling this series was highly unlikely because of his separate shoulder issue. Cricket Australia's selection report says Nic Maddinson and Cooper Connolly are possible No. 5 options, but a place in the touring squad or a projected XI is not selection in the final eleven. Wait for Australia's team announcement or toss. The International Cricket ID guide explains the distinction between Test, ODI and T20I information and Vedik account guidance; it is not an official Test team-sheet service.

India Women name Zimbabwe squads: Shafali T20I deputy, Deepti ODI deputy

The BCCI's 6 October squad advisory names Smriti Mandhana captain of both India Women groups for the Zimbabwe home series. Shafali Verma is vice-captain for the T20Is; Deepti Sharma is vice-captain for the ODIs. Harmanpreet Kaur is named as a player in both squads. The BCCI has separately confirmed Mandhana's full-time captaincy as the team enters this series.

Six fixtures across two formats

The BCCI lists three T20Is in Raipur on 16, 18 and 20 October at 7 PM IST, followed by three ODIs in Vadodara on 23, 25 and 28 October at 2 PM IST. These are squad and schedule announcements, not confirmed XIs or results. The T20I and ODI deputy roles belong to different formats; neither determines a women's franchise-league captaincy or grants any official access through a third-party account.

VVS Laxman to attend senior selection meetings, not become a selector

According to PTI's 6 October report, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said VVS Laxman, head of the Centre of Excellence, will attend senior selection committee meetings to improve communication with selectors. PTI reported that he had attended a T20I and India A selection meeting in Guwahati. Attending meetings is not an appointment as a selector or chief selector.

The distinction matters because the BCCI separately advertised one position on its men's selection committee, with applications due on 14 October. The vacancy notice names a recruitment process, not Laxman as its successful candidate. His reported attendance does not by itself settle the committee's membership, a player's fitness or the XI for any upcoming match.

World Cup 2027 ticket ballot tops 1.1 million applications—not sales

In a 6 October release, the ICC said more than 320,000 fans registered for its 2027 men's Cricket World Cup ticket ballot and submitted applications for more than 1.1 million tickets. The ICC reported over 110,000 applications for the India–Pakistan group fixture. Those numbers measure expressions of demand, not tickets purchased or fans guaranteed entry.

How the ticket ballot works

Ballot registration is free. The ICC permits one entry per person per match and says the ballot is not first-come, first-served; where applications exceed allocation, a randomised process determines access to a later purchase window. The official ticket portal states a 21 November 2026, 23:59 SAST closing time. The ICC release calls the same UTC+2 zone CAT. No ticket is paid for in the ballot itself. Compare the published World Cup group fixtures with the conditional Super 7 format before entering for a particular match; applying does not make a conditional matchup certain.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka: first Rawalpindi T20I set for 9 October

The Pakistan Cricket Board schedule lists three Pakistan–Sri Lanka T20Is at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on 9, 11 and 13 October. Its release gives the date and venue, not the clock time; the ESPN match centre currently lists an 8:00 PM Pakistan time / 8:30 PM IST first-match start. A separate ESPN regional rendering has shown a conflicting time, and the PCB announcement does not resolve it. Recheck an updated match centre before travel; this is a scheduled fixture, not a result.

Captains and availability

The PCB squad announcement names Sahibzada Farhan as Pakistan's T20I captain; Sri Lanka Cricket names Kusal Mendis and lists Dushmantha Chameera subject to fitness. These are squad statuses, not proof of a playing XI or Chameera's availability on match day. For the board-list comparison, read the existing Pakistan–Sri Lanka T20I squads report. The International Cricket ID guide covers national-team match context and separate Vedik account questions; it is not a PCB or Sri Lanka Cricket credential.
