India defend 223 and move ahead in the series

India beat West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20I at Holkar Stadium, Indore, on Sunday, 11 October 2026. The hosts made 223 all out before holding the visitors to 209/7 in 20 overs. The result gives India a 2–1 advantage with two matches remaining, according to the ICC’s 11 October match report.

The win reversed the direction of the previous match, when West Indies completed a large chase in Ranchi. India again had runs to defend, but this time wickets at important stages prevented the visitors from carrying a settled partnership into the closing overs. Our earlier Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford chase analysis explains the background to that contrast.

Abhishek’s 69 gives India a fast start

Abhishek Sharma scored 69 from 30 balls after Sanju Samson was dismissed for three. Ishan Kishan added 37 from 18, and the ICC report records India reaching 115 in 8.2 overs. That early scoring gave the innings room to absorb later setbacks rather than leaving the lower order to build from a modest position.

India did not convert that start into an uninterrupted surge. The Indian Express report, published at 10:46 PM IST on 11 October, describes the middle-over loss of momentum and Tilak Varma’s run-out. Tilak made 28 from 16; Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed 21 from 14 and Axar Patel 20 from 14, as recorded by the ICC.

The final total was therefore both a strong target and a reminder that the innings had unfinished work. India’s top-order acceleration created the foundation; later contributions carried the score to 223 despite the fall of all ten wickets.

Arshdeep and Naman break the West Indies reply

Arshdeep Singh dismissed Shai Hope for five in the second over, removing the captain who had anchored the Ranchi chase. Shimron Hetmyer and Kamil Pooran then rebuilt through a 60-run second-wicket partnership from 31 balls. Hetmyer made 43 from 26 and Pooran 42 from 27, keeping the target within reach during their stand.

Naman Dhir dismissed both set batters. His 2/39 mattered because the breakthroughs forced West Indies to begin again rather than extend their strongest early partnership. Arshdeep finished with 3/44 and received the Player of the Match award; Axar and Nitish also took a wicket each, the ICC report confirms.

Sherfane Rutherford’s 32 from 20 and Quentin Sampson’s 21 from 15 kept the reply moving. Shamar Springer finished unbeaten on 35 from just 11 deliveries, but even that late burst did not erase the gap. West Indies completed their 20 overs on 209/7.
