Kishan and Sooryavanshi take centre stage in Ranchi nets
Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi drew attention during India's optional practice in Ranchi on Thursday, ahead of the second T20I against West Indies. The PTI report carried by Rediff, updated at 9:25 AM IST on 9 October, describes an approximately two-hour session. It is a preparation update, not a team announcement.
Kishan spent time attacking spin, with Ravi Bishnoi, Naman Dhir and Abhishek Sharma among those bowling to him. Sanju Samson also batted during the session. Sooryavanshi repeatedly cleared the boundary in the adjacent nets, attracting onlookers as India prepared for its Friday evening fixture at JSCA International Stadium Complex.
The report's date matters: the practice was on 8 October, while Rediff updated its account the following morning. The nets performance is not a competitive innings or evidence that either batter has been assigned a new place in the order. It should not be added to a player's international runs.
Kotak backs Kishan's maturity before his home-ground appearance
Assistant coach Sitanshu Kotak praised Kishan's increased maturity and ability to respond to the team's situation. The IANS match-eve account, published on 8 October at 8:44 PM IST, records his support for the Jharkhand batter before the Ranchi match. Kotak's assessment concerns preparation and approach; it does not promise a particular score.
Home familiarity gives Kishan's evening an additional local interest, but a practice report cannot establish an advantage over West Indies' bowlers. The relevant test is how he handles the actual surface and match situation if selected. The Ranchi pitch and dew analysis explains why the conditions could make that task different from Lucknow.
An optional absence is not an injury or exclusion
PTI reported that Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Mayank Yadav did not attend the optional session. That does not establish that they are injured, unavailable or dropped. Kotak said the team had not been decided and everyone in the 15-player group had a chance.
Sooryavanshi's striking does not confirm a debut or mean Samson will make way. Likewise, Mayank's absence from this session is not a fresh medical announcement. Our separate Ranchi probable-XI and selection report compares the published predictions while preserving those uncertainties.
India's aim is a second win, not a result already achieved
The BCCI fixture lists 9 October at 7:00 PM IST in Ranchi. India lead the five-match T20I series 1–0 following their eight-wicket Lucknow win, as recorded in the Cricbuzz preview. A 2–0 lead is the hosts' target, not the current scoreline.

That page dates the IPL hundred to April 2025; it is not another October international performance.
