Jewel Andrew's finger injury: the confirmed 5 October update
West Indies added Amir Jangoo as cover for Jewel Andrew before the 6 October India–West Indies T20I in Lucknow, the ICC reported on 5 October. Andrew hurt a finger during Saturday's third ODI, but an x-ray found no fracture. He remains under observation and has not been ruled out of the T20I series. A cover call-up does not decide Tuesday's wicketkeeper or playing eleven.
Neither player's place in the first-T20I starting XI was established by the injury report.
The ICC account identifies the moment: Andrew completed a catch at cover to dismiss Naman Dhir off Gudakesh Motie in the 36th over of India's innings. Andrew did not immediately return to the field and did not bat in the West Indies chase. That is a description of the completed ODI, not evidence he will miss every subsequent T20I.
What Amir Jangoo adds to the West Indies T20I group
Jangoo was not in the original Cricket West Indies T20I selection. The ICC's updated group includes him after his 239-run ODI series: 58 not out in the opener, 114 in the second match and 67 in the third. His ODI returns explain why a cover option attracted attention, but neither those runs nor his seven previous T20Is guarantee a start in Lucknow.
There is an important distinction between “replacement,” “cover,” and “confirmed XI.” The 5 October report says cover, and explicitly says Andrew is not ruled out of the series. A confirmed absence would require a later medical or team-management update; a match appearance requires the toss-time team sheet. Treat older 19 September squad graphics as historical selection notices, not the current complete pool.
What is still unknown before the first T20I
Neither the severity beyond the reported no-fracture scan nor a recovery timetable was published in the sources checked. There is no basis for predicting an Andrew return date, Jangoo's role or which keeper will actually play. The first-T20I match-time and squad guide answers the separate schedule and India-viewing question; this report covers the new medical and selection development.
Also distinguish the West Indies roster update from BCCI's earlier Naman Dhir-for-Washington Sundar change in India's squad. Dhir was the batter whose ODI dismissal produced Andrew's injury; that does not mean the two sides made the same sort of selection change.
When the match starts, and what to check next
The BCCI match centre lists Tuesday 6 October at 7:00 PM IST in Lucknow. Check a newer medical bulletin and the official toss sheet before treating either keeper's participation as confirmed. A later genuine decision would warrant a substantive correction to this report, not a second page repeating its headline.
