India coach Morne Morkel says Mayank Yadav is back from injury and may get an opportunity against West Indies. He has not been named to the first T20I XI.

Morne Morkel says Mayank Yadav is back from injury

India bowling coach Morne Morkel said on 5 October that fast bowler Mayank Yadav is back from injury as the team prepares for the West Indies T20Is. “I look forward to seeing how he goes when he gets an opportunity,” Morkel said in match-eve press-conference coverage from Outlook. The comment is a return-to-group development, not confirmation that Mayank starts the Lucknow opener.

The exact XI and his participation must be checked at the toss.

What is confirmed, and what remains an open selection decision

The BCCI's India T20I squad release already names Mayank in the group. Morkel's newer comment describes the recovery and the prospect of another chance. Neither source publishes a match-day spell, speed figure, guaranteed five-match workload or a specific medical clearance timetable.

According to the same interview account, Morkel highlighted Mayank's pace and the attitude required after repeated injury setbacks. Those are attributed coach views, not evidence that he has returned to a starting XI. Do not convert the words “when he gets an opportunity” into “will make his comeback on Tuesday.”

A separate question from India's prior Sundar–Dhir change

BCCI's earlier T20I roster correction named Naman Dhir in place of Washington Sundar for red-ball preparation. That is a different selection development. The existing India–West Indies T20I time and squad page explains the 6 October schedule and that replacement. This page instead records a fresh, attributed bowling-coach assessment of Mayank's status.

The ICC and BCCI match cards should establish his actual place in the XI, if any. This article does not propose a playing XI or imply that his place depends on an unnamed player's injury.

What happens next in Lucknow

The BCCI lists a 7:00 PM IST first T20I on 6 October at Ekana Stadium. The confirmed toss-time eleven is the appropriate next source. If Mayank plays, his actual figures belong in a subsequent substantial update; if he does not, the coach's pre-match words remain a dated statement of expectation rather than an appearance.
