Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I: Rawalpindi Time and Match-Eve Facts

The boards list a 9 October opener in Rawalpindi. A match centre lists 8 PM Pakistan time; the start, availability and playing elevens must be checked again before play.

Pakistan–Sri Lanka first T20I: 9 October, Rawalpindi, and the listed start

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are due to open their three-match men's T20I series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday, 9 October 2026. The Pakistan Cricket Board's schedule confirms the date and ground; at our 8 October check, the fixture had not started. The ESPN match centre lists hours of play beginning at 8:00 PM Pakistan time (PKT), or 8:30 PM IST for readers in India. That time is an attributed match-centre listing, not a clock published in the PCB release.

One regional match-centre rendering displayed an unexplained alternate top-line time, while the detailed local-hours field says 20:00 PKT. Our dated 7 October roundup recorded the discrepancy. Recheck the match centre and any fresh board notice near the toss, particularly if planning around the start; do not treat a cached or unlabelled time zone as a board confirmation.

02

All three T20Is are listed at the same Rawalpindi ground

The PCB's published fixture list and Sri Lanka Cricket's tour announcement agree on 9, 11 and 13 October in Rawalpindi. The opener is a senior men's bilateral T20I; the later ODI tri-series and November Tests are separate competitions, with separate squads and dates. A board's earlier tour itinerary is a schedule, not evidence that tomorrow's match has already been played or that the venue cannot change later.

Readers searching for “Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I time in India” should keep the half-hour offset in view: a 20:00 PKT listing means 20:30 IST on the same calendar date. The PCB schedule itself does not supply local hours; that distinction matters when two cricket pages show different-looking clock formats. No local weather, broadcast provider or toss time is confirmed by the cited fixture records, so none is asserted here.

03

Farhan and Mendis lead announced groups, not final elevens

In its 5 October selection announcement, PCB named Sahibzada Farhan captain of Pakistan's 15-player T20I squad. The board separately named Shaheen Shah Afridi captain of its ODI tri-series group. That does not make Afridi the skipper for this Friday T20I. Sri Lanka Cricket selected a 15-player T20I group led by Kusal Mendis.

For every named player and the different format-specific captaincy, use our earlier Pakistan–Sri Lanka board-squad comparison. Reprinting those two complete squad lists here would not answer the more immediate match-eve question: which parts of tomorrow's game remain unconfirmed? Being named in a 15-member group does not prove a player will be in the XI, bat in a certain position or play the first match.

04

Chameera is conditional; do not turn injury notes into an XI

Sri Lanka Cricket specifically labels Dushmantha Chameera's inclusion subject to fitness. The ICC's squad report also says Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga are unavailable for this T20I leg because of injuries; any later ODI return depends on fitness clearance. None of those details is a late match-day team announcement. They describe the selected group and its limits at the dates those reports were issued.

The final elevens come with official team sheets at or after the toss. A match-centre player to watch or a projected XI is neither a selection notice nor a verified injury update. If another player becomes unavailable between our check and the match, follow a current PCB, Sri Lanka Cricket or match-centre update instead of silently changing this article's historical timestamp.

05

What should readers check on 9 October before the match?

First, confirm the date, ground and local-hour listing in the latest match centre or a board announcement. Next, read the toss and both official team sheets before naming a starting eleven or describing Chameera as available. Finally, use a completed scorecard for the result; this 8 October match-eve report is not a live score or result feed. The boards' 9, 11 and 13 October itinerary should not be confused with a broadcast schedule or ticket-access promise.

Cricket contexts differ from account services. Our T20 Cricket ID guide explains general Vedik account terminology across T20 competitions; the international cricket guide separates national-team match information from account registration and login. Neither is a PCB or Sri Lanka Cricket credential, ticket, stream, score service or source of an official playing XI.

06

What is confirmed now, and where to find later changes

As checked on 8 October 2026 at 11:45 AM IST, the two boards list the Rawalpindi opener for 9 October, Farhan and Mendis head their respective T20I squads, and the ESPN match centre shows 20:00 PKT / 20:30 IST in its local-hours field. The start-time caveat and Chameera's fitness condition remain important. No toss, match outcome, final XI or weather disruption is asserted. The Cricket News page provides other dated reports, not official match-day authority.
