Tshwane, Centurion and Johannesburg: 2027 World Cup Stadiums

Match the ICC fixture city's name to its official ground name, with an honest note about one conflicting ICC media-release sentence.

01

Tshwane means Centurion; Johannesburg means Wanderers Stadium

The ICC's 2027 World Cup match list assigns matches by city, while a separate ICC host-venue announcement names the grounds. In that official mapping, “Centurion (Tshwane)” and “Wanderers Stadium (Johannesburg)” are the pairs readers need. “Tshwane Cricket Stadium” is a search phrase, not the ICC's published ground name.

Neither of these South African grounds hosts the India–West Indies third ODI on 3 October 2026. That is a separate game in New Chandigarh, India. This decoder concerns the 2027 World Cup and answers a place-name question rather than repeating the full tournament schedule.

02

What matches does the ICC assign to Tshwane/Centurion?

In the ICC's detailed table, Tshwane has Pakistan vs Afghanistan on 8 October 2027, India vs Afghanistan on 14 October and Bangladesh vs Qualifier B on 23 October. The later 27 October B2 vs AB4 slot is conditional on which teams qualify into the Super 7; the second semi-final is listed there on 18 November. The ground list calls this venue Centurion.

Do not read B2 or AB4 as an already guaranteed team pairing. ICC pre-seeding helps lay out a possible fixture path, but qualification still determines the participants. The released fixture table also does not state individual match start times, so a clock time for any of these matches would require another current official listing.

03

What matches does the ICC assign to Johannesburg/Wanderers?

Johannesburg is the published location for India vs Pakistan on 10 October 2027 and New Zealand vs Sri Lanka on 20 October. It also has the conditional A2 vs B3 Super 7 match on 25 October and B2 vs A1 on 31 October. The tournament final is listed there for 21 November, with 22 November designated as its reserve day. The ICC venue guide names Wanderers Stadium as the Johannesburg ground.

Even when the table puts “India” in parentheses beside the pre-seeded A1 slot on 31 October, that Super 7 game is not yet confirmed as an India fixture. The India World Cup fixture report separates five confirmed group matches from all six conditional A1 slots.

04

Why a city label is not a second stadium name

The official venue list covers eight South African grounds, three in Zimbabwe and one in Namibia. Cape Town corresponds to Newlands, Bloemfontein to Mangaung Oval, Paarl to Boland Park, Durban to Kingsmead, Gqeberha to St George's Park and KuGompo City to Buffalo Park. Zimbabwe has Harare Sports Club, Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo and Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium at Victoria Falls; Namibia lists Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. These name pairs come from one ICC ground list, not from photographs or search autocomplete.

There is also an ICC source discrepancy worth checking before planning a South Africa fixture. The ICC media release places South Africa vs New Zealand in Centurion on 8 October; the detailed fixture table places that match in Cape Town on 9 October. This article follows the detailed table and flags the conflicting prose instead of asserting both alternatives. Neither version affects the India–Pakistan Johannesburg listing.
